Olivia Lane Brings Sunshine to Chicago this Weekend [interview]

Olivia Lane ChicagoEmerging country artist Olivia Lane is bringing her fierce set of pipes to the greater Chicagoland area this weekend as she is set to play The Cooler in Rock Falls this Saturday, April 16th. The Cooler is located at 311 W 2nd St, Rock Falls, IL 61071.

Fresh off the release of her new music video for “Make My Own Sunshine,” Lane is currently on tour in support of the incredibly catchy single.

“This is what I’m all about; this is how I look at life,” she told Rolling Stone Country about the song. With a huge voice and an infectious personalty (which totally comes through even on social media: check out her Instagram here), this country newcomer is definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area. If you frequent Joe’s Bar in Chicago, you may have already seen the bubbly Texan when she played there with Craig Morgan and Whiskey Jam.

We chatted with Olivia about music, being on the road and her upcoming show in Rock Falls. Check it out below!

Chicagoland Country: Tell us a little bit about the inspiration behind your current single “Make My Own Sunshine.”
Olivia Lane: Honestly, I wanted to write a happy song that makes people feel good while also giving listeners insight into who I am as an artist. I try to live every day looking at the glass half full so I hope this song helps someone smile.

Chicagoland CountryHave you played in the Chicagoland area before?
Olivia Lane: I have a few times actually. I’ve played Joe’s Bar and that’s always a good time. I love Chicago!

Chicagoland CountryDo you have any pre-show rituals?
Olivia Lane: I do some quick jumping jacks and a shot of whiskey if my voice is tired.

Chicagoland CountryWho are your biggest musical influences? Do you have a dream duet partner?

Olivia Lane: I have so many influences! I love big female voices like Reba, Dolly, Carole King, Alanis Morrisette. I also love The Eagles, Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Kenny Chesney, James Taylor…the list goes on and on! Linda Ronstadt would be a dream duet.

Chicagoland CountryWhat is your favorite and least favorite thing about being on the road as a touring musician?
Olivia Lane: I’m not a morning person whatsoever so the early flights and minimal sleep are brutal sometimes but getting to meet so many awesome people all over the country and play music for them far outweighs any hardships.
